Additional Information

  • Taste
The Terra di Briganti 2007 wine – Aglianico del Sannio is a good and honest boutique wine, with less than 9000 bottles produced. Its taste of wine “hand made” with organic grown grapes is very pleasant; it's a kind of new dimension of taste that deserves additional point to the overall wine score. The sincere and intense ruby color with ruby reflections invites to a spontaneaus swirling, which reveals many legs. Its aroma of licorice, tobacco, and oak is warmed by a smooth perception of alcohol and harmonized by a rich bouquet of berry and violet. At its first sip there is an immediate recognition of tannins followed by coffee, prune, and oak notes producing a pronounced but balanced taste. The after taste exalts the oak, coffee, and tobacco tastes that dominate the mouth feeling. It comes of age when bottled. This is a well structured wine, which humans have enjoyed since the Roman age, and now offering a wine tasting experience for wine lovers seeking rich and unique flavors.

    Serving Tips
The Aglianico del Taburno is a great wine for savory dishes, red sauces, and both medium and intensely flavored foods. The Sommelier suggests this wine pairs well with grilled or roasted veal, beef or game meats. Lasagna, pasta with mushroom, meatball, and alfredo sauces are the international dishes that best pair with Aglianico del Taburno. The Aglianico is served at about 63°F. However we found this wine very pleasant also few degrees colder. We suggest to enjoy this wine at temperature in the range of 57°F - 64°F.

    Wine Appellations
The Aglianico del Sannio is produced in the territories through hills and valley of Telese and The Taburno, in the Province of Benevento, Campania - land of history and traditions. The production zone of the Aglianico in the province of Benevento is a district of high hills that are subject to particularly severe winters. It’s extraordinary how the Aglianico variety has successfully adapted to such conditions, even at altitudes of 500-600 meters above sea level. The fine and consistent quality of the wine produced in the area enabled local producers to obtain DOC recognitions. The wine tradition of Sannio is ancient. This area was preferred by Romans to drink and trade good wine, which was stored in amphoras sealed by label reporting vintage and type. Since then the wine was aged several years.

    Aglianico Grape History
The Aglianico grape has extremely ancient origins, most likely cultivated in the early period of Roman history. It constituted the principal grape in the production of Falernum, a wine that was celebrated by the ancient poets. The variety was introduced to Italy by the Greeks at the time of the foundation of Cumae (the modern Cuma) or soon afterward, while the transformation of the name from Hellenica into Hellanica and then into Aglianico occurred at the end of the 15th century - the period of Aragonese domination over the Kingdom of Naples.

    The Winery History
The winery is situated in the Province of Sannio, an area of Campania. The hillsides are sunny and covered with grapevines. During the years 1860th , these lands were the refreshment stands of Brigants. Still today, these lands are indicated as the Lands of Brigants. Hence the winery name Terra di Briganti (Lands of Brigants) , in memory of the definition of this area. Since long time this winery is participating to orgnaic programs. As of today they produce only organic wines, which have also the typical taste of “hand made” wines. This winery is certified organic by the Organic Certifying Agent “Suolo e Salute” in Italy, which is USDA Accredited Certifying Agent for the National Organic Products.
