Grapes
80% Sangiovese
20% Merlot
Taste
This full-bodied wine is an extraordinary combination of delicate and robust flavor of merlot and sangiovese grapes. Its color is ruby of high intensity with ruby reflections. It appears clear, displaying many legs on the glass when gently swirled. Its bouquet offers a pleasant combination of fruity and woody sensations inviting further soft inhalations which reveal the subtle aromas of red fruit and oak overlaying a delightful geranium fragrance. Since the first taste this wine is rich! Its taste is international and so interesting that entices anyone to savor it for a moment longer. It reminds some great wine from the new world even though it's made in the old world with superior sangiovese and merlot grapes grown in Italy. The aftertaste is heavy and long, with a discernible lingering essence of cherry, blackcurrant, and bell pepper enriched by an appreciable note of walnut, coffee, and cedar.
Serving Tips
The Falconero pairs best with roasted meat, beef, game, cheese – especially with pasta-, and sausage. You may find this wine especially enjoyable with seasoned cheeses. It should be served at 61°F, but our Sommelier highlighted a broader temperature indicated for this wine, also chilled at temperature of 57°F. This full-bodied wine has such a broad pairing that it can be equally suitable for business events or slow and pleasant dining with family or friends.
Wine Appellations
FALCONERO is categorized as IGT, Indicazione Geografica Tipica, an extention the DOC category. The IGT open up new paths for winemakers who wanted to venture outside the relatively strict confines of the DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) and DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) categories without, however, making concessions on the level of quality. The IGT wines may be considered as a kind of new world wine style from the old world. The IGT regulations require use of authorized varieties and most of the production codes adopted to date provide for the use of one type alone or in a ratio of at least 85% to other approved grapes. The IGT wines are identified with specific territories. For consumers, the IGT primarily means a wide range of wines of good quality available at highly competitive prices.
The Winery
The vineyards that yield RUBENS, the Montefalco Rosso wines, are situated on hills at 400 meters in the province of Perugia in Umbria - the central Italian region. In 1992 Ferraro's family began to buy the estates in Montefalco's territory. The first lands concentrated around a fifteenth century church devoted to the Madonna. Being situated on the hills outside the town walls of Montefalco and dominating the Umbria Valley, it was indicated as Alta (high). From there the name of the winery Madonna Alta. Madonna Alta owner is a great pleasant Italian enologist, with passion for wine with great taste.
